Joan Louise Zimmer-Keating, daughter of the late John Zimmer and Marguerite Rosche-Zimmer, was born on June 20, 1933, at Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, NJ. She grew up in Rochelle Park and Dumont, NJ. Joan attended Dumont High School, Bergen Junior College, and later Fairleigh Dickinson College where she enjoyed cheerleading, singing and being May Queen. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Joan was a long-time resident of Hillsdale, NJ and later New Hampton, NY. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends after a short illness on July 1, 2023, at the age of 90. Joan married Paul Francis Keating on September 3, 1955, at St. Joseph’s RCC in Oradell, NJ. They celebrated a wonder life together for over 65 years and were inseparable. They raised their family in Hillsdale, NJ and New Hampton, NY.
Joan loved and devoted herself to her family, nursing, Collies and always helping the many animals in need. She was involved in animal rescue both on her own and with Closter Animal Welfare Society (CLAWS), later of which she became President. Joan was part owner of Keating Auto Products in Closter, NJ with her husband, Paul and father, John Zimmer. Joan and her family (always with a Collie by her side) loved to spend their weekends boating on the Hudson River and later enjoyed traveling around the country in their motorhome.
Joan was predeceased by her cherished husband, Paul Francis Keating, her loving and devoted grandson, Gregory Paul Eckel, and her younger sister whom she adored, Judith Ann Zimmer Boell-Olsen. Survivors include her loving and devoted daughter, Joan Elizabeth Keating-Ingram, her husband, Steve Roger Ingram, loving and devoted grandson, Steven Francis Ingram, very close and loving family members nephew William John Boell, niece Susan Elizabeth Boell and nephew Christopher Joseph Incognoli. Joan was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother (Mama), sister, aunt and friend who will be cherished always and missed forever by all of us.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 11 2023 from 4:00 Pm to 7 Pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home 130 Highland Ave, Middletown, NY 10940
A funeral service will commence at the funeral home at 5:30 Pm with Reverend Pablo Richmond of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Middletown, NY officiating.
Interment will take place on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 11 Am at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen NY.
