Obituary for Rosario Catizone
Rosario Catizone
July 17, 1929-October 29, 2017
Middletown, NY
Rosario Catizone, a longtime area resident and talented mason, died after a brief illness at Orange Regional Medical Center on Sunday, October 29, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
The son of the late Pietro and Gina Calogero Catizone, he was born on July 17, 1929 in Magisano, CZ Italy. His family emigrated to the U.S. in 1968 and settled in Middletown where many of their family members and neighbors from Italy had relocated. He always had a soft spot in his heart for his “Paese Nostro” and often visited, staying at his familial homestead and working on his olive groves. He was hard-working, strong, generous and proud of his family, his ancestry and traditions. While his family was the center of his life and nothing could bring more joy than having them at the dinner table to share meals, he was also passionate about gardening, growing figs, vegetables and grapes, and making wine. Sharing all he had with family, friends and anyone that stopped by.
Rosario is survived by his true love and devoted wife of 65 years, Isabella, his son, Pietro Catizone and his wife Carolyn of South Glastonbury, CT, and his daughter Maria Gesualdo and her husband Frank of Randolph, NJ. He is also survived by a brother, Antonio and his wife Maria of Middletown, a sister-in-law Emilia Catizone of Randolph, NJ as well as his sisters and brother in Italy; Maria Lostumbo, Ermelinda Catizone and her husband Rosario, Vincenzina Rotundo and brother Benito and his wife Miranda. Beloved Nonno to Rosario (and his wife Emma), Simone, Isabella, Adelina (and her husband Anthony), Susan (and her husband Russell), Gina and Isabella and three great-grandchildren; Bradley, Penelope and Maddelena. He will be missed by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many close friends.
Rosario was pre-deceased by his beautiful and much adored daughter Gina and brother Luigi.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Interment will follow in Holy Rood Cemetery, 61 Whippany Road, Morristown, NJ, 07960.
