L. Lorraine Lazier, 94, of Middletown, NY passed away on Oct. 4, 2021, at Highland Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a short stay.
Lorraine was born in Warwick, NY to Ethel Phillips and Edsall Lazier on March 25, 1927. Lorraine has lived most of her life in the Middletown Goshen area. She was the manager of the Western Union office in downtown Middletown until its closing in 1970.
Lorraine then decided in her mid-forties to go back to college for Nursing. She graduated from O.C.C.C. in 1973. She would go on to become an accredited Critical Care RN. She worked at Arden Hill Hospital as the charge nurse of the Special Care Unit until her retirement.
Lorraine was an avid reader and a regular patron of the Middletown Thrall Library; it was not uncommon for her to take out several books at one visit. Lorraine had a good heart and would help anyone. She was a beloved sister and aunt. Lorraine spent much of her time in her later years studying the bible and finding comfort in its teachings. She became a Catholic in 2020 and followed Mass on television during the pandemic.
Lorraine leaves behind to cherish her memory: sister, Wanda L. White, brother-In-law Anthony Vuolo, Sr., nieces Holly Bedford (Robert) and Rosalie Riker; nephews Anthony Vuolo Jr. (Karen), David Vuolo (Linda) and James Vuolo; as well as several great nieces and nephews. Lorraine was predeceased by her mother Ethel Phillips, father Edsall Lazier; stepfather Albert Phillips; sister E. Jacqueline Vuolo; brother-In-law Edward White, and nephew Gerald E. White.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Middletown Humane Society,142 Bloomingburg Road, Middletown, NY. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday October 11, 2021, from 10am to 11am and will be followed by a Funeral Service at 11am, at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown NY 10940.
