CHRISTOPHER F. BUTLER
July 12, 1966 - April 29, 2017
Middletown, NY
Chris Butler, a longtime Middletown resident, formerly of Washingtonville, NY, died at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence on April 29, 2017 after a long battle with parotid cancer. He was 50 years old.
The son of Michael and Patricia Shaub Butler, he was born on July 12, 1966 in New York City. Chris enjoyed drawing, bicycling and listening to music. As a child, he made and sold wire sculptures at craft fairs, and as an adult he occasionally sold his drawings.
A family statement read: “Chris beloved son, brother and uncle, we are so proud of you for coping with your illness with bravery and gracefulness and for your compassion to others who were caring for you. This was our greatest trial in life – letting go of each other. Hope inspired us up to the very end. We love you and will continue to be inspired by you, as you begin your next journey. XXOO”
The family would also like to thank Dr. Thomas Eanelli for his compassionate treatment of Chris, as well as the nurses and staff at the group home where Chris lived.
In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by his loving sister, Heideli Hoffer; brother-in-law, Henry Crawford of Otisville, NY; three nieces and a nephew: Erin Crawford, Emma Crawford, Samantha “Lilly” Krunfol and Ryan Crawford of NY and his friend, Daisy of Middletown, NY. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. (Tutumanu) William B. Herbert. He will be remembered as a loving, funny, caring and creative person. He was a gentle soul. May he rest in peace.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Spagnoli Family Cancer Care Center at Orange Regional Medical Center.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 19th at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.
