Obituary for Ida "Skippy" Frankel Lipschutz
Ida “Skippy” Lipschutz , a longtime area resident and former mayor of the Village of Liberty, died on Sunday March 26 at O.R.M.C., Horton Campus. She was 86.

The daughter of the late Morris and Molly Levowitz Bergman, Skippy was born on April 20, 1919 in Waterbury, Conn.

The first woman to run for mayor in the Village of Liberty, she served as the Mayor for ten years. Skippy was the first female president of the NYS Conference of Mayors, a member of the John F. Kennedy, Jr. Inaugural Ball Committee and the Hospice Inaugural Ball. She was also the Past Association Chairwoman of the Sullivan County Democrats.

A family statement reads:

“Skippy was a strong and motivated woman who had many talents. She was a great singer and dabbled a bit in show business. She was smart and savvy and left quite a legacy for her family.”

She is survived by her loving sons, Marc “Alan” and Alex Frankel, both of Middletown.

She was predeceased by her first and second husbands, Sidney Frankel and Dr. Paul Lipshutz, and her three brothers, Nat Bergman, Julius Bergman and Alex Bergman.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 10 to 11 am at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Congregation Ahavath Israel Cemetery in Liberty, NY.
