Blanche Michelitch, a lifetime Otisville resident, died on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at her home. She was 100.

The daughter of the late George Arnott and Fannie Gill Arnott, she was born at home on September 12, 1912 in Middletown. She was raised in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School. Blanche worked as a Mental Health assistant for Middletown State Hospital . She was the wife of John Michelitch whom she married in Cuddebackville, he predeceased her in December of 1980.

Blanche was extremely active in her community. She was a dedicated member of her church, Otisville Presbyterian and served as a Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Women’s Auxilary of the American Legion, the Otisville Garden Club where she was a Past President , and the Mt. Hope Presbyterian Bible Study Group. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 15 years and volunteered for the Literacy Program at OCCC. Blanche was a member of the Mt. Hope Seniors, the founder of the Otisville Seniors ; Past President of the Otisville Monitor, a member of the Mt. Hope Historical Society; and was President of the Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery Board. She was a past dispatcher for the Otisville Ambulance, past coordinator of the Otisville Decorating Committee and a volunteer for the Otisville School District.

Blanche loved to play Pinoccle and held weekly games with her friends. She always believed you were never to old to learn, at the age of 65 she learned to drive. She also loved to paint.

She was survived by her sons, John (Jack) and his wife Marilyn of Marietta, GA and Lawrence (Larry) and his wife Sandra of Otisville and William (Bill) Michelitch of Otisville; grandchildren, Terry, Merrilyn, Kristin, Chad, Todd, Scott and Mégan and 12 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Richard, brothers, James and George; two sisters, Audrey Ross and Bernice Duquette and half sister, Joan Piccolo and Janet Cherney as well as her husband John.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, Septemver 3, 2013 at Otisville Presbyterian Church, 25 Main Street, Otsiville, NY 10963. Rev. Jeffrey Farley will officate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery. www.applebee-mcphillips.com
