Henry Grusz, a lifetime area resident, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 91. The son of the late Peter and Josephine Kalbarcyk Grusz, he was born on December 22, 1922 in Pine Island, NY.
Henry was a longtime member of the Eagles Club and St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown.
He was all about family; he stayed close to his fourteen siblings all of his life and adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He attended all of his grandsons’ baseball games as they were growing up. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, and gardening.
He was predeceased by his wife, Irene; his son-in-law, Edward Lattimer, who was like a son to him; and his brothers, Frank, Edward, Peter, and Joseph; and sisters, Josephine, Stasia, Bertha, Anna, Jenny and Florence.
Henry is survived by his son, Henry Grusz, Jr and Luann of Mt. Hope; daughter, Kathleen Lattimer; and his stepson, Ronald Lake of Middletown. He is also survived by his brothers, Mitchell, Casimir and his wife, Eva and Walter and his wife, Irene, and one sister, Eleanor Wasko, all of Connecticut; his grandchildren, Brian Lattimer and his wife, Kathryn and Christopher Lattimer and his wife, Amy, Melissa and Stacey Grusz; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Anthony, Nicolas, Jonathan, Logan and Abby.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery in Middletown.
