Joan E. Imperati, loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, died surrounded by her beloved family on September 19, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 65.
Born on July 14, 1949 in Paterson, NJ, Joan was the daughter of John Beckwermert and the late June Nichols Beckwermert. Joan married Mario Imperati on April 4, 1970 in Allendale, NJ and they shared 45 years together. She worked as an Administrative Secretary for Pine Bush Central School District.
Joan was a daughter of a Marine, and throughout her courageous battle with cancer, she never complained. She was witty and kept her sense of humor for her family even in her last days. Joan’s memory will be cherished by all who loved her as the kind, compassionate friend who was forever graceful and humble. Her bravery throughout her illness was inspirational to her family and friends.
In addition to her husband Mario, she is survived by her son, Mario and his wife Gina of Ormond Beach, FL and two daughters, Amy Van Sickle and her husband Joseph of Middletown and Lisa DeStefano and her husband Devon of Belchertown, MA. She is also survived by her sisters, Judith Potter and her husband Jim of Darnestown, MD and Janice Beckwermert and her spouse Barbara Vanderzanden of Waterford, ME; and seven grandchildren, Joseph, Sophia, Mason, Josephine, Guiliana, Luke and Adelina as well as Kellen, whose arrival is due in 5 weeks and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Grace Episcopal Church, 58 North St, Middletown, NY 10940, Fr. John Warfel will officiate. Cremation will be private.
Memorial contributions in Joan’s name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
