Yolanda "Babe" O’Brien, 91, of Boiling Spring Lakes,died Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at her home. Mrs. O’Brien was born August 30, 1920in the Bronx, NY, the daughter of the late Palmerino and Rosalina Buff Scumaci.
Mrs. O’Brien was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Middletown, NYwhere she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of St. Joseph’s. She wasa member of the VFW Post 10400 Ladies Auxiliary and had worked for 25 years inthe Middletown High School. Mrs. O’Brien was a lovingmother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husbandof 67 years, James J. O’Brien Sr.; a son, John O’Brien; a daughter, AgnesO’Brien; three brothers: Frank Scumaci, Michael Scumaci, and Scotty Scumaci;and three sisters: Theresa Verrilli, Mary Colavito, and Dolly Perna.
Surviving are a son, James J. O’Brien Jr.and wife, Linda of Cortlandt Manor, NY; a daughter, Barbara Glidden andhusband, Herb of Boiling Spring Lakes; two brothers, Tony Scumaci of Bronx, NYand Joseph Scumaci of Suffern, NY; three grandchildren: Nancy Pisciotti andhusband, Steven, Karen Enea and husband, Michael, and Marc Glidden; fourgreat-grandchildren: Jenna and Emma Pisciotti, and Jake and Alex Enea; andseveral loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass will be held inMiddletown, NY at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 11a.m. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family will havevisitation on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Applebee–McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.
In lieu of flowers, the family requeststhat memorials be made to the VFW Post 10400, 3161 George II Highway, Southport, NC 28461.
Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 pm on Sun. August 5th at the funeral home
Funeral Mass at 11 am on Mon., August 6th at St. Joseph's Church
Burial to folow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery
