Winifred Nelson, an area resident since 1972, died peacefully on Friday, July 13, 2012 with her loving family at her side at Kaplan Family Hospice Home in Newburgh. She was 79.
The daughter of the late Francis and Ann Meghen Anglim, she was born on April 29, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. Winifred married Arthur Nelson on February 3, 1957 in Brooklyn and they raised six children together.
She worked as a Quality Control Manager for Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis. Winifred was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America in Brooklyn, and locally a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church and the Mt. Hope Seniors.
A personal message form her family reads' "We would like to thank our Mom/Grandmother for guiding us with her strength, grace and dignity and to always be a family first. Your love will be with us all forever".
She is survived by her children, Arthur Nelson, Jr and his wife Jodi; Katie Ramos and her husband Art, Karen Loos and her husband Doug, Alicia Remey and her husband Ed, Debbie Nola and Barbara McCreery and her husband Tom. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry Anglim and his wife, Ann and sister, Francis Franzo; and 11 beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Allison, Heather, Douglas, Samantha, Brandon, Mitchell, Kyle, Tommy and Emily. Winifred was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur Nelson, Sr. in 2001, her sister Joann Gillooly and her son-in-law, Bob Nola in 2008.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at
Holy Name of Jesus Church, 45 Highland Avenue, Otisville, NY, 10963. Burial will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.
Winifred's family would like to thank Dr. Ferguson, Dr. Kondagunta, Dr. Eanelli, Dr. King, Brenda and Ann from Hospice and the wonderful staff at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence for the gentle care and compassion shown to our mother and family during her illness.
