Willis Duvall Boyer
March 21, 1925-July 7, 2009
Willis Duvall Boyer, a longtime resident of Middletown,  died July 7, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 84 years old.Â
The son of the late Milton and Beatrice McMains Boyer, he was born in Flushing, NY on March 21, 1925. He proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He then received a bachelors’ degree from Bucknell University. On June 25, 1949, Willis married Elizabeth Jane McBride at Sanford Heights Presbyterian Church in Irvinton, NJ.
Willis was a fifty year member of the Webb Horton Presbyterian Church, which became the United Presbyterian Church of Middletown. He was also a member of the church choirs, a twenty- five year member of the Excelsior Hook and Ladder Co., and a Rotarian. A wonderful man who was always fair and honest, He loved and was loved by his children and grandchildren. Willis also loved golf, and vacationing in Hilton Head, NC and Long Beach Island, NJ.
He is survived by his son Donald and his wife Sharon of Willamsville, NY, daughter Susan Engel and her husband Arlyn of Eugene, OR, his sister Helen Cordell and her husband Robert of Houston, three grandchildren, Lindsay, Paige and Kylie and his companion Dovetta Broas.  Willis was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth and one son, Glenn. Visitation hours are from 7 to 9 pm on Friday, July 10, 2009 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Memorial Service with Military honors will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11 am at the Webb Horton Campus of the United Presbyterian Church, 50 East Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940, Rev. Robert W. Hoag will officiate. Â
Cremation will be private at Cedar Hill Crematory. Â
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Willis' name to be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Middletown, 50 East Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
