WILLIAM WAGNER
February 12, 1931 - October 11, 2016
Middletown, NY
William "Fritz" Wagner, a retired member of Local 17 in Newburgh, died following a short illness on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 85.
The son of the late Charles and Rose Keller Wagner, he was born on February 12, 1931 in the Bronx. He served his country in the Army National Guard for 5 years. Fritz married Barbara Decker and they shared many happy years together until her death on May 1, 2005. He was a 50 year member of Local 17 in Newburgh and was a man of many talents. He was a loving Dad and devoted husband who respected women. Fritz was always a gentleman. He loved autumn and the changing seasons, he especially enjoyed the colors in the fall. He loved animals and was an excellent caretaker of animals.
He is survived by his son, William Wagner and his wife, Jodi; four daughters, Kathy Sanders and her companion, Homer of McDonnough, NY, Lora Wagner and Cindy Cannon both of Middletown and Teresa Burke and her husband, Howard of Moorehead, NC; and one sister, Marge Meyers. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, Barbara, he was predeceased by four brothers, Bernard, Arthur, Charles and Johnny and a sister, Gertrude.
Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery, Midway Road, Middletown, NY 10940.
