William N. Pitt, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, died unexpectedly following a progressive illness on December 27, 2020 at Garnet Health Center in Middletown. He was 83.
The son of the late Lucy Gallo Pitt and Bernard Pitt, Sr., he was born on July 31, 1937 in Spring Valley, NY. A lifetime area resident, he attended Rockland County schools. He married Mildred V. O'Brien on January 28, 1967 in Spring Valley. William worked as a lineman for Orange and Rockland Utilities until his retirement and was also the owner of Bill's Pool Service for 35 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with his family and friends.
Bill was always at the center of family life; he was the peacekeeper. He was the glue that kept his family together and the fixer of any problem. He was outgoing, tough, and kept his sense of humor in every situation. He hated bad weather. Bill was loved by his entire family and all of his friends. He will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Mildred at home; his four children, William Pitt Jr and his wife Colleen of Bloomingburg, Gina Odell of Wurtsboro, Laurie Parker and her husband Rudolph of Bloomingburg, Kelly Konrad and her husband Robert of Middletown, and two surviving brothers, Bernard Pitt Jr of FL and George Pitt and his wife Sonya of SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler Odell, William Pitt and Nicholas Pitt, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Annette Grant, and brothers Norman and Lewis Pitt.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at his parish, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, High Street, Bloomingburg, NY 12721. Fr Nicholas Blackwell, O. Carm will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Cemetery.
