William Myers, a lifetime Middletown resident, died on Tuesday July 12 in Beacon. He was 65.
The son of the late George K. and Blanche Mingus Myers, he was born on December 3, 1945 in Middletown. Bill was a graduate of Middletown high School Class of 1963. He later attended OCCC, Marist College and Texas A & M, earning a Masters' degree. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from OCCC. Bill served in the US Army from 1965-67. He married Pamela Bandi on April 15, 1972 at St. Joseph's in Middletown.
He served as president of Middletown Savings Bank for over 30 years and was a founding member of the Community Bank of Orange County. Bill was extremely active in his community and lent more than just his name to the organizations he was a part of. He joined Middletown Rotary in 1973 and over the years served as treasurer for the group. He was a member for more than 38 years and current President of the Middletown Day Nursery Board . He also served on the Salvation Army Board for 30+ years and on the Board of the United Way. He was also instrumental in the merger of the two chambers into our current Orange County Chamber of Commerce. Friends, family and colleagues will remember Bill as
funny, supportive and the kind of man who got things done.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Pam at home; one son, Brian Myers of San Fransico, CA and a daughter, Erin at home; a brother John “Gene” Myers and his wife Linda in Circleville; sister-in-law Clara Myers in Boston; his two beloved grandchildren, Michael "Mikey" and Casey Myers and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his son Timothy in 1980 and his brother George Myers.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial with Military honors will follow in O.C. Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to Inspire, 78 Cypress Road, Goshen, NY 10924 or at www.inspirecp.org.
