Obituary for William McKinney
WILLIAM "BILL" MCKINNEY

April 17, 1916 - June 14, 2018

Middletown, NY

William "Bill" McKinney, a longtime Middletown resident, and recently of Lake Worth, FL, died on Flag Day, June 14, 2018 with his family at his bedside in VISTAS Hospice in Delray Beach, FL. He was 102. He fought cancer like a warrior.
The son of Floyd W. and Rosetta Faust McKinney, he was born on April 17, 1916 in New Hampton, NY. He began working at 15 years old on the family farm and as a chauffeur to various " city folk" when they visited their country homes.
He entered the U.S. Army to serve his country after being married to Margaret Wagner and was pre-deceased by Lorraine Decker Mckinney, and Isabelle Sircable Mckinney.
During World War II he earned several commendations including a Purple Heart. He was proud to be part of the 77th Infantry Division, U.S. Army for four years active duty. After his discharge, he joined the Carpenters Union and Laborers Union #17 in Newburgh. He liked to work hard and did so most of his life. He only called in sick one day of his career.
He purchased Mud Mills School, the one-room school house he attended as a child on Maples Road in the town of Wallkill and turned it into his home which he built himself.
After finally retiring, he became a member of the Wallkill Seniors and enjoyed the company and camaraderie of many of the members. At the ripe old age of 99 he refused to use a cane stating "it makes me look old to the ladies". Right after his 101st birthday he moved to FL and enjoyed sitting by the pool, playing with the dog, had parties and new friends.
He is survived by his daughters, Rose Mary Clark and her husband, Bob of Unionville, NY, Gert Walker of Howells, NY and Jodi Engelhardt and her partner, Paul of Lake Worth, FL; grandchildren: Billy and Caprice Walker and Heidi Winchell, Carleigh Engelhardt, Suzanne Sutton and Margie Reeves; great-grandchildren: Alana Joy Boria, and Joshua Reeves, and Sierra Walker. He was pre-deceased by his grandson, Richard Gross Jr.; brother, Lloyd McKinney and his lady friend who gave him years of love and happiness in his golden years, Bertha Looey.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 25 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26 at the funeral home, burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery in Middletown.
