Wurtsboro, NY

William Keil, a lifetime Wurtsboro resident, died on Friday, May 30, 2014 at ORMC. He was 97.

The son of the late William and Minnie Claus Keil, he was born on September 9, 1916 in Wurtsboro, NY. William proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a 60 years member of the American Legion. He worked as a machinist for Channel Master in Ellenville for 35 years.

Willie was a drummer for the Polkateers and a self-taught pianist who played by ear and loved to entertain others with his music. He always kept a big garden and shared what he had with everyone.

He is survived by his niece, Julie Sherman and her husband, Roger; grandnephews: William Sherman and his wife, Tammy, Roger Sherman, Jr. and his wife, Diana, and Ralph Tunno and his wife, Kris; grandnieces: Jennifer Sherman, Sharon Galligan, Allison, Emily, Amy Earl and 16 great great nieces and nephews and Charles Fallon and Lou Tunno and his wife, Kathleen. He was predeceased by Frederick Keil and nieces: Donna Fallon and B.J. Earl.

He was predeceased by his brother, Frederick and sister-in-law, Betty Keil.

Cremation was private . As per his wishes, Willie’s ashes will be spread over the mountain range across from his lifetime homestead in Wurtsboro.
