William “Bill” Howard of Crawford, died suddenly on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 78.
The son of the late William Edgar and Pearl Howard, he was born on June 23, 1934 in Otisville, NY.
Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1963. He worked for the Middletown School District in Building and Grounds for thirty years. After retiring in 1997, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his best friend Alvin.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor of thirty-eight years at home; his two sons, John Rivera and his wife Susan of Crawford and Louis Rivera and wife Jeanine of Greenville; his daughter Donna Howard and her companion William Oates, Jr., his grandchildren, Nicholas Rivera and his fiance Michelle Stolba of Long Island, Kelcie Rivera, Brianna, Jessica and Christopher Rivera, Kaycee and Camren Iorio; one sister Edna Machnicki of Middletown and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Beatrice Smith of Middletown.
Visitation hours are from 9 to 11 a m on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 am on Thursday at the funeral home. Following cremation, burial with will take place at O.C. Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, Ny 10924.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
