William”Bill” Haenelt, a lifetime resident of Bloomingburg, died on Tuesday December 12 at O.R.M.C. Horton Campus Middletown, NY. He was 71.
The son of the late Edwin Maxwell and Gloria Valentine Blauvelt Haenelt, he was born on August 4, 1935 in New York, NY. Bill married Gudrun “Gert” M. Czysch on May 1, 1957 in Germany.
He was a member of the 7366th Radar Group in the US Airforce where he was a flight mechanic. Bill was an automotive engine machinist, builder and designer and ran a family business in Middletown, Quality Engine Dist. He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption R.C. Church, DIRT motorsports, NASCAR Modified Club and the Sports Car Club of America.
A family statement reads: “Bill had three loves in his life, his family, his friends and auto racing.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Gert at home; son Edwin G. Haenelt and his wife, Ann of Bloomingburg; two daughters, Linda E. Pietrzak and her husband Mike, and Debra J. Haenelt and her cherished friend James Beuerman, all of Bloomingburg; sister Julia Vincent and her husband Ron of Hudson, FL.; and seven grandchildren, Josh, Meghan, Scott, Eddie, Adam, Ray, and Amanda as and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Gloria DiMilta.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, December 14, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avneue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 High Street, Bloomingburg, NY.
Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
