William “Bill” Douglass McGillicuddy
10/10/1954-2/17/2024
Bill McGillicuddy passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Garnet Health Medical Center, where he was surrounded by family in his final days. Born on October 10, 1954, he was the grandson of William Basil “Mack” McGillicuddy, and the son of William Rice McGillicuddy and Jean McGillicuddy.
Bill graduated from Manhattanville College, in Purchase, NY, in 1976, with a Bachelor of Arts in History, cum laude. He then received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1979.
Bill spent several years working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company before he began practicing law in 1982. He began his legal career representing workers' compensation claimants and carriers, and personal injury plaintiffs. Since 1984, he represented workers’ compensation claimants exclusively, and since 1988, Social Security Disability applicants. At the age of 34, he formed his own firm, McGillicuddy & Siegel, P.C., with offices in Pine Bush and then Montgomery.
After several successful years, Bill retired in 2002, and sold the firm. He stayed busy during his retirement - receiving a Master’s in Education from Mount Saint Mary College and serving on the Pine Bush Central School District Board of Education for 3 years. He also worked as a stockbroker for 2 years.
In 2010, Bill returned to law and bought back his firm. William D. McGillicuddy Law Office, P.C., was created, and Bill continued to practice law and manage his firm up until his passing.
Bill loved to travel, he loved music, and he loved reading about history, especially the Civil War, World War II, or Irish history. More than anything, he was a devoted “Da” who loved his children endlessly.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Judith Brower. He leaves behind his daughter, Caitlin McGillicuddy, of Atlanta, GA; his son, William C. McGillicuddy, of Middletown, NY; his former spouse and mother of his children, Patrina A. McGillicuddy, of McDonough, GA; his dedicated Licensed Hearing Representative of almost thirty years, Stacie L. Blasko, of Wallkill, NY; his loyal and trusted associate, Christine M. Giaimo, of Newburgh, NY; as well as many other friends and colleagues whom he met and impacted along the way.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to Stand Up To Cancer, P.O. Box 843721, Los Angeles, CA 90084-3721. https://standuptocancer.org/?form=su2c_donate
