William “Papo” Bartko

William Bartko, a longtime resident of Middletown, died January 4, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 55 years old. The son of the late William and Barbara Lamberto Bartko, he was born on May 3, 1955 in Yonkers. On October 30, 1976, Bill married Susan Clements in Bloomingburg. He worked for 32 years for Inwood Apartment Complex in Middletown.
His whole life was devoted to children, besides being a J.V. Coach for Pine Bush School district for twenty years, he coached soccer for the Town of Wallkill for twenty-nine years. As Bill would say for both soccer and lotto, “you got to be in it to win it”. Bill also relished his food, but-“Melissa, it’s missing something…”
Bill is survived by his loving wife Susan, two sons Christopher and Andrew at home and grandson Nicholas. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation hours are 7 to 9 pm on Thursday January 6, and Friday January 7, from to 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am Saturday January 8, at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel 90 Euclid Ave in Middletown. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions should be made to the Bill Bartko Soccer Scholarship Fund , c/o Pine Bush Schools, Rt. 302 Pine Bush, NY 12566 att. Judy Pulver.
