Willard M. Turk, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, January 10, 2007. He was 79.The son of the late Morris and Pansie McAdams Turk, he was born June 8, 1927 in Fremont Center, N.Y.A veteran of World War II, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy.He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Doris Verderber Turk; his sons, Michael and Bruce Turk; his brother, Vincent Turk; sisters, Arvilla Backlund and Virginia Muth, and his great-grandson, Jesse James Turk.Willard is survived by his beloved children: Linda Slottko, Karen Turk, Willard Kevin Turk, Pamela Sokoloff, Teri Lee Golden and Kimberly Turk; grandchildren: Darlene Blum, Ruthanne Sokoloff, James Golden, Amanda Sokoloff-Stivers, Willard and Philip Turk; great-grandchildren: Samantha and Michael Blum, Stephanie and Travis Turk, and great-great-granddaughter, Dorianne Blum.There will be no visitation. Cremation and services will be private and at the convenience of the family.A family statement reads: "We know he will be greatly missed by his many friends who will recall the man who was always ready to lend a helping hand and brighten their day with his unending sense of humor and wit."Memorial contributions in Willard's name may be made to a charity of one's choice.Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
