Whitley "Desmond" Thomas a 40 year resident of the Middletown area, died peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at home with his loving wife at his side. He was 75.
The son of the late Dougal and Princess White Thomas, he was born on April 14, 1934 in St. Anne's Bay, Jamaica, West Indies. Desmond worked for 30 years at Horton Hospital; five years in the laundry and 25 years as a Supervisor for Environmental Services. He met his wife, Roberta Knack at Horton and they were married on May 29, 1974 in Middletown.
He loved traveling and gardening. He enjoyed manicuring his lawn and trees.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Roberta at home, many nieces and nephews in both America and Jamaica. He was predeceased by both of his parents, sisters and brothers in both Jamaica and in Toronto, Canada.
Visitation hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 8 pm at the funeral home on Thursday evening. Cremation will be private and at the convenience of at the family.
