Wayne D. Allen, Sr.
On June 13th 2023, Wayne D. Allen, Sr. a longtime resident of Middletown, NY since 1974, unexpectedly passed away in Plattsburgh, NY while with his wife visiting his son and family. He was 76 years old.
Wayne was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 1, 1946 to William and Dorice Allen.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Allen of Middletown NY. Their daughter, Dawn Marie Allen and her children Cassandra, Gordon and Jordan of Binghamton NY. Their son, Wayne D. Allen, Jr., his wife Stephanie and their children Caiden and Wayne D. III of Plattsburgh NY.
After graduating from high school Wayne proudly enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. from 1966 to 1972 and fought in the Vietnam War, earning the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and a National Defense Service Medal. He Married the love of his life, Eileen (Carey) Allen on November 18, 1973 in New Jersey. They raised two children together and eventually were blessed with five cherished grandchildren. Wayne worked with and eventually joined his dad as partner at P&B Sunoco in Dumont NJ and later sold the business to spend time with family. Wayne then started working for the New York State Department of Corrections and retired in 2013 as a Plant Utility Engineer. Wayne was a long-time member of the Barber’s Eddy Gun Club.
Wayne was a loyal friend and a trustworthy man who was known for his patriotism, his love of family, God and Country. He cared about his many fellow veterans that he came in contact with. He was knowledgeable, passionate and courageous. A couple of his favorite sayings were, “If I don’t have it…you don’t need it” and “Plan your work and work your plan.” Wayne was a great man and will be missed by his family and many friends. Wayne also enjoyed spending time at camp, hunting with his buddies and cooking for everyone.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Euclid Ave., Middletown, NY with Fr. Pablo Richmond, O.Carm officiating. Burial and Military Honors will take place at Orange County Veteran’s Cemetery.
