Walter J. Roche of Middletown NY, died on Tuesday May 3 at Castle Point Veterans Hospital Beacon, NY. He was 72.
The son of the late Joseph and the late Magdalene Biegen Roche he was born on June 15, 1938 in Goshen, NY.
Walter was a Navy veteran who proudly served his country. He was a lifetime member of the Middletown B.P.O.E. # 1097, the Middletown Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians,American Legion Post 151, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the DAV. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church and dedicated member of all the organizations he belonged to and loved. Walt will be remembered as a very nice man- always very generous with his time and money.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Roche; nieces and nephews, Kathleen Scheels and her husband Michael, Michael Roche and his wife Lisa, and Thomas Roche and his wife Allison; 7 great nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday (today), May 5, 2011 from 4 to 7:30 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Friday, May 6, 2011 at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY. Burial with Military honors will follow in the family plot in St. Columba's Cemetery, 21 High Street, Chester, NY, 10918.
