Obituary for Walter J. Bryant, Jr.
On May 15, 1935 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, a baby boy was born to Walter and Cammie Bryant. They named him Walter James Bryant, Jr.

Affectionally called “Phillip” by family, he received his formal education in Muskogee and later attended the historical Langston University from 1953 to 1954. “Phillip” enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and served four years. After leaving the military, in 1960 Walter moved to New York and started working for the Brooklyn State Hospital. He met and married Theola Davis. To this union two sons were born: Patrick O’neal and Walter III. Walter later started working as a correctional officer for the Otisville Federal Correction Institute. After 25 years of service with the government, Walter retired in April 1999.

Walter was a fun loving and enjoyed drinking coffee, telling stories, playing cards, dominos, chess and bowl ing.

Walter was predeceased by his parents and his siblings; Naneice, Anna Mae, Jewel, Lois, Bennie and Imogene.

Walter is survived by his sons: Patrick and Walter (LaDonna), five grandsons and 3 granddaughters.

He leaves behind special family members: Oscar Richardson, Jr, Gratus and JC Keyes and other neices and nephews. Devoted friends: Margaret Hampton, Albert Buffington, Lonnie Jones, John Ducate, Nyra J Thomas, Sandra Perez, Irvin Weber, Wayne Shoemaker, Tim Mays and the Otisville Federal Correctional Institution family.

A Graveside Service for Walter, with Military honors will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924. Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
