Virginia Steinback, a long-time resident of Wurtsboro and later Bloomingburg, New York, died peacefully on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Highland Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Middletown, New York. She was 92.

She was born May 16, 1929, in Spring Valley, New York, to Ida (Von Hoffman) and Lawrence Bienskie and attended Spring Valley High School where she studied cosmetology. Virginia married Andrew L. Steinback on September 17, 1955. She worked for Avon and at Prentice-Hall Publishing, but her primary vocation was raising her three sons and, later in life, caring for children of extended family members. She loved to read mystery novels and enjoyed card games, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family.

She is survived by her three sons, Mark (Sherri) Steinback of Grand Island, New York, Michael Steinback of Kiamesha Lake, New York, and Scott (Lynn) Steinback of Middletown, New York, as well as nieces, nephews, and many cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Andrew, as well as her brothers, Lawrence and Eugene (Bienskie).

A service in her name will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church in Bloomingburg on Thursday, October 21 at 10:30 am. An informal celebration of her life will follow at the church. She will rejoin her husband at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Nanuet, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sullivan County Federation of the Homeless or a charity of your choice.
