Obituary for Virgina Krajewski
Virginia V. Krajewski, a longtime area resident, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday February 2, 2022 at home. She was 86 years old.
The daughter of Luis and Mercedes Colon. She was born May 13,1935 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She moved to Kingston, NY in 1951. She married the love of her life Buddy Krajewski on June 19, 1961. They were married for 59 years before his passing in 2020. Virginia, learned how to be a seamstress early in life and worked various jobs doing a skill she loved. She was a very independent woman, a true entrepreneur as she owned several businesses throughout her life, a Clothing Manufacturing business where she produced clothing for top designers. She was also the owner of the Pool Store, Inc. which she owned with her husband and son John. She retired in 1992 and enjoyed life as a snowbird in Miami, FL for many years fulfilling her love of the beach and the warm weather.
Virginia was a spitfire, with an amazing zest for life! Her presence would illuminate every room she entered, she was a showstopper! She was everyone’s mom, aunt,best friend and grandma, from piercing ears to giving driving lessons, she was a Den Mother, the cofounder of the Amchir neighborhood watch program, she was instrumental in the fight to provide school transportation to Amchir Village children. She was a civic minded woman who enjoyed local politics, often volunteering on campaign trails. Virginia was an amazing cook, and always welcomed anyone to her dinner table. Christmas was her favorite holiday and her house was always beautifully decorated. She and her husband enjoyed raising their 5 children, they instilled a love of travel, spending many years camping as a family, including going to the beach where they enjoyed fishing, crabbing and clamming. Their love of family led them to putting in an inground pool for everyone to enjoy family life and make memories at “Krajewski pool”. Her family was her life, especially her grandchildren, she was proud of each and every accomplishment they made.
She is survived by her children Yvonne Howard and her husband Michael of Huntington, NY, John Illanovsky and his wife Susan of Matamoras, PA, Terry Bassett and her husband David of Georgetown, TX, Marie Krajewski Christner, Holly Lawrence Malley and her husband Dan Malley of Middletown, NY, and foster daughter Karen Turi of Florence, AL.
Her grandchildren:
John Francis Bassett, Jessica Freytag, Brianne Morgan, John Paul Illanovsky, Nicole Illanovsky, Kristopher Howard, Matthew Howard, Jordan Lawrence, Taylor VanDyke, Connor and Parker Krajewski Christner. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren, Jordan Jr and Jionni Lawrence, Mila VanDyke, Nolan and Landon Bassett, Grace and Reid Morgan, Tatum and Bryce Freytag, Xavier, Roman and Kaine Howard, Jayce and Riley Illanovsky.
She is predeceased by her husband Francis Krajewski, son in law, Gene Lawrence, her parents, and many of her brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 3-7 on Monday February 7, 2022 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday February 8, 2022 at Our Lady of Mt.
