THOMAS PHELAN III

April 30, 1959 - December 18, 2011

Middletown, NY

Thomas Phelan III of Middletown, NY died unexpectedly Sunday, December 18, 2011 at home. Born in Queens on April 30, 1959 to Thomas and Anna Sutkus Phelan Jr., he was 52 years old.

Tom was a devoted father, brother, son and husband. He loved spending time with family and took great pleasure in sharing his fishing, skiing and barbeque talents with his children and their cousins. He had a funny sense of humor that only the family could appreciate. His job, as a Captain of the State Police was, after family, his second love. We will always remember his dedication and service to our community.

He is survived by his wife Lisa; his son, Thomas IV of Mississippi; his daughter, Alyssa of Middletown; his mother, Anna; one brother, James and his wife, Lisa of Putnam Valley, and one sister, Carol Grieco and her husband, Louis of Middletown; brother-in-law, Bill and Patricia of Chester, Chris and his wife, Sherri of Tennessee, and father-in-law, Bill Wall and his wife, Toni; two nieces and nine nephews and many colleagues and friends. Tom was predeceased by his dad on October 20, 1993.

Visitation hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 149 Cottage St. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Middletown.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to NYS Trooper Foundation in Latham NY.
