Teresa Monaghan of Middetown NY, died on Monday September 4 at home, surrounded by her family. She was She was 83.
The daughter of the late Robert and Ellen Thompson Davey, She was born on March 22, 1923 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She married Bernard J. Monaghan in 1949 in Ireland. Theresa came to the United States in 1952, and settled in Inwood, NY. She and her family moved to the middletown area in 1975. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown.
A family statement reads: :She loved to have a good time. She was a comedian and made us all laugh all the time. She truly enjoyed her life; she loved her family- her childrengrandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She was a hardworker and a strict, but great mother. She loved Bingo, her regular Elks Club, Maddy’s breakfast and Diana’s dinner. Big Teasie was always there for her family and always had a smile for us all.”
She ia survived by her son, Brian Monaghan and his wife Jeanne of New York, Ny; daughters, Eileen Skelly and her husbadn Jack of Vasailla, CA; Margaret Crummenauer and husband Tom of Howells; and Theresa Watson of Middletown; nine grandchildren, Tara, Sean, Barney, Tommy, Kelly, Danielle, Erin, Leonard and Brendan; and 11 great-grandchildren; Johnna, Julian, Justin, Jason, Aidan, Elias, Alanna, Zachary, Katelyn, Riley, and Brogan, and one sister in law, Kathleen Davey of Belfast, Ireland.
She was predeceased by her husband Bernard, her twin sister Julia, sisters Kitty and Elizabeth, and sisters-in-law Catherine and Sheila and brother Patrick Davey. She was also predeceased by her grandson Brian Patrick Monaghan on Sept. 11, 2001.
Friends and family may call Today, Wed. Sept. 6 and Thursday, Sept 7 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Sept 8 at 9:30 am at St. Joseph’s R. C. Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
