Theresa (Tess) Brinckerhoff, a longtime Middletown resident, died on Friday, February 18, 2011 at St. Teresa's Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was 80.
The daughter of the late Dominic and Helen Tomei, she was born in Pottsville, PA. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1948. Tess married David Brinckerhoff on July 8, 1949 in Middletown. She worked for many years for Middletown Psychiatric Center then as a secretary/bookkeeper for Middletown Day Nursery. Tess retired in the early 1990s.
She was an active member of her community; serving others through her work with Radio Vision (reading to the blind), Meals on Wheels, Webb Horton Soup Kitchen, the Pocatello Fire Co. Auxiliary and Cornell's Cooperative Extension/ Culinary Department at Orange County Fair which she worked each year. Tess also was active with the Board of Elections as a Poll watcher in Pocatello and was a member of the Mulberry House Seniors and the Unitarian Universalist Church during her lifetime.
She is survived by her daughters, Leah LaRocca and her husband Ralph, and Holly Romano and Craig; and son, Glen Brinckerhoff and his wife Sue and their daughters, Christine, Michelle and Lisa; and her grandchildren, Hayley Lederman and her husband Matt, Van Romano, Greg LaRocca and Doug LaRocca and great-grandchildren, Max, Jake, Luke and Peyton; brother-in-law Richard Brinckerhoff and his wife Barbara and three sisters, Etta, Florence and Helen in Florida. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, David Brinckerhoff in 1999 and three brothers, Walter, Arthur and Joseph Hasbrouck.
Tess' family would like to give special thanks to Orange County Adult Day Care Service, Southwinds Assisted Living and Retirement Home and St. Teresa's Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the care they all provided Tess and her family . A private Family Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
Memorial contributions in Tess' name may be made to any of the above charities that she had dedicated her efforts to during her lifetime.
