Tex Lawrence, a longtime resident of Middletown and formerly of the Bronx died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, December 4, 2023. He was 77 years old.
He was born to Susana Lydia Lawrence and Isaiah Lewis in the Dominican Republic on February 6, 1946. He married Adela Toribio after a second chance meeting in New York in 1979.
Tex was a hardworking and responsible man his whole life. He came to the United States in 1970 and had a career at Unitex Textile before working at St. Joseph’s Seminary for the Archdiocese of New York and retiring in 2009. Tex was deeply involved with and a member of Hermandad Dominicana, a social club and cultural organization in the Bronx. He was always active and enjoyed playing recreational softball, dominoes, and billiards. He was known for being well put together, his enjoyment of a good debate or argument, his wicked sense of humor and teasing taunts, and his willingness to lead and lend a helping hand. He was well loved and respected by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Adela; their children Yasser, Maireny, Yahaira, Mery, Kiara, and Keyla; their grandchildren Caine, Aislynn, Marissa, Gabriel, Ava, Kaidence, Kamari, Amir, and Kyrie; his brother Andres and extended family.
Tex was cremated. There will be a celebration of life held in his honor on Saturday, January 6, 2024, 5:00pm, at Hermandad Dominicana Inc., 2313 Westchester Ave, Bronx, NY.
