Obituary for Sylvia Quiles
Sylvia Quiles, a lifelong resident of Middletown, died on May 8, 2018 at home after a long illness with her family by her side. She was 63.
The daughter of the late José and Eloisa Tirado, she was born in Middletown on August 1, 1954.
Sylvia married Miguel Quiles on January 1, 1977 in Wallkill, NY and celebrated 41 years of marriage. Miguel loved everything about her as she was the heart of the family. A mother to her own children as well as many neighborhood kids and was known for her radiant smile and caring way. Every night she prepared a hot supper for all to enjoy and reminded us that, “You must cook with love or the food won’t taste good!”
Sylvia will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Miguel; her children, Kathryn Smith (John) of Clintondale, N.Y., Yvonne Quiles of Middletown, her son Miguel Jr. (Amber) of Elkridge, MD, Ellie Mazara (Anthony) of Palm Bay, FL. and seven grandchildren; Anthony, Matthew, Alexavier, Trinity, Josiah, Emmalyn, and A.J. as well as a brother, Joe Tirado (Kathleen) of Ocala, FL, 3 nieces, Kristina, Stefanie, Melanie and many more nieces, nephews, brothers in law, sisters in law and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Anna Lynn and two grandchildren; Sebastian and Isabella.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14 from 5-8 pm at the Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave. Middletown, N.Y. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be celebrated at 7:30pm with Pastor Joe McKelvey officiating. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory.
Donations in her name may be made to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Way, Memphis, TN 31805.
