SUSIE CATHERINE SHIRLEY December 15, 1928 - January 25, 2012 Middletown, NY Don’t grieve for me, for now I am free. I took God’s hand when I heard him call. I cannot stay another day to work or play. If parting has left a void then fill it with remembered joy.
Susie Catherine Shirley, affectionately known as "Sue", beloved daughter of the late Ada and John Shirley was born on December 15, 1928 in Orange County, VA. She was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at her home in Middletown, NY.
At an early age, Sue accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and joined the Orange Grove Baptist Church. She received her education in the Orange County public school graduating with honors as valedictorian from Lightfoot Training School in 1945. After graduation, she relocated to Brooklyn, NY. There she worked in the dental dept at Woodhall Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and then retired as the Principle Administrative Associate for the Dept of Health in NYC.
She leaves her love and memories: to her wonderful granddaughter, Tynisha N. Hayes, one great granddaughter, Nia K. Roberson, two sisters, Polly Shirley of Orange County, VA and Corrina Delois Burrows of Hyattsville, MD, one brother, Charles Shirley of Philadelphia, PA one sister in law, Catherine Shirley of Philadelphia, PA, one brother in law, Albert Burrows of Hyattsville, MD and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services and Burial will be at a later date in Orange, VA.

Visitation is Wed., Jan. 29 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the funeral home.
