STEFAN KOVACS JR.

Stefan Kovacs, Jr., a retired construction supervisor for Union Local 279 and devoted farmer, died on June 29, 2017 after a short illness at Highland Manor Rehab, surrounded and cared for by his family. He was 85.
The son of the late Stefan and Teresa Kovacs, Sr, he was born in Herceg Falva, Hungary on June 4, 1932.
Stefan immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 and began a lifelong love of family, farming and hard work. His childhood was marked by many challenges but he came here with an appreciation for the opportunities he was given. He was a good provider who will be remembered for his serious disposition and his gentle and kind way he cared for others. He married Anneliese Schneider in 1958. Their children were his pride and joy and the grandchildren delighted him!
Stefan is survived by his devoted wife, Anneliese at home; his son, Steve and his wife, Kerriann of Tiverton, RI; his daughters, Monika Clemente of Middletown, and Nancy Moore and her husband, Robert of Danvers, MA; brothers, Joseph and his wife, Erika of Sparta, NJ, and Siegfried of Garfield, NJ; sisters, Teresa Fridenger of Pine Brook, NJ and Elizabeth Koch and husband, Ruddy of Indian Springs FL; four cherished grandchildren: Louis, Zachary, Samantha and Raegan; two newborn great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Services will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 3 at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will take place at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Hudson Valley/Rockland/ Westchester, NY Chapter, 2 Jefferson Plaza Suite 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601-4060.
