Stavroula Soultanakis Dakis of Goshen NY, died on Tuesday March 16 at O.R.M.C., Arden Hill Campus Goshen, NY. She was 84.
The daughter of John and Evangeline Philon Simadiris, she was born in Egypt in June 4, 1925. As a young woman, Stavroula "Stevie" worked as the personal secretary to Mr. Penney, head of New York's J.C. Penney Stores. She moved to the area in 1984 from Englewood, NJ. Stevie was a devout member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church and active in the Holy Cross Greek Ladies Philoptochos in Middletown. She was also a member of both the Middletown and Goshen Senior Clubs.
Stavroula was a woman of impeccable taste who enjoyed the finer things in life. She was strong minded and a devoted mother and friend.
She is survived by her son, Philip Soultanakis and his wife Dorothy and their son John, all of Dingmans Ferry, PA; two sisters-in-law, Vicki and Nanacy Simadiris, nephew Jeffrey Simadiris and neice Marcella Simadiris both of Union City, NJ; and her dear friend, Lea Gardianous.
Stavroula was predeceased by her daughter, Evangeline in 1983 and two brothers, Philip and Elias Simadiris.
Visitation hours are from 9 to 10:30 am on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Applebee-McPhilips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 am on Friday morning at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, Goshen Turnpike,
Middletown. Fr. Chris Talleos will officiate. Burial in the family plot will take place Friday afternoon in George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
