Obituary for Stanley J. Dombrowski
STANLEY J. DOMBROWSKI
May 10, 2018
Middletown, NY
Stanley Dombrowski, a lifelong resident of Orange County, NY, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the age of 93.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Betty and John Jessup, Suzanne and Stanley Tremper, Dawn and Todd Zielinski, and Randy Dombrowski and Debby Smith, and their families.
As Stanley would tell you, his life began with a humble start. Born into a large Polish-Catholic family in Greenville, NY, he spent many hours farming in the black dirt. During World War II, he proudly served as a Navy signalman on the U.S.S. Houston, traveling throughout the Pacific Theatre. Upon his return, he met the love of his life, Altta, who he spent the next 70 years with.
Stanley and Altta settled in Middletown, where they raised their four children and had frequent visits from their seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Stanley worked at the Middletown Psychiatric Center for 42 years and was well known as the beloved bartender at Club 211.
Always social, Stanley’s favorite moments were those when he was surrounded by family and friends. He cherished the holidays, especially Christmas, and family vacations to the Delaware shore and Walt Disney World. Stanley loved being outdoors – whether gardening or golfing – was an avid Yankees fan, and enjoy going dancing with Altta at the Elk’s Club, where he was a long-time member.
Stanley will always be remembered as a man of humility, strength, and tremendous generosity. He was the quintessential “people’s person,” tirelessly giving to others with little thought of himself. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A forever patriot, Stanley’s wishes were that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Hudson Valley Honor Flight at P.O. Box 375 Walden, NY 12586.
Visitation will be held between 4 and 8 p.m. on Monday, May 14th at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Middletown. Interment is to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Middletown.
Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 845-343-6309.
