Obituary for Shawn O'Brien
Shawn O’Brien of Woodbourne, NY died suddenly at his home on Friday, 7/22/22, he was 49.
Shawn was born on July 4, 1973 in Middletown, NY to Loretta Young. He attended Middletown High School and
Orange County Community College. He was employed by A Triant Construction, Inc. in Liberty, NY since
2015.
Shawn had a “larger than life” personality and treated everyone he met like a friend. He was a light in
many lives. Shawn is survived by his son, Adrian Davis, of whom he was enormously proud, his dad, Neil
O’Brien of Absecon, N.J., his mom Susan O’Brien and step-father Bob Prosynchak of Lewes, DE, his sister
Helen O’Brien of Albany NY, several aunts, uncles, and cousins and his beloved dogs Ragna and Gita.
He’s also survived by his son Adrian’s mother, Maulana Davis, her sons Keishaun and Elijha and Adrian’s
grandmother Yvonne Davis.
Adopted in 1975 by Neil and Susan O’Brien, Shawn always said he grew up not with a blood family but a
“love family.” He has remained bonded with that love family to this day, and they are all left to mourn
his passing and celebrate his life. Among them are Regina Botens and her family: Nat, Apache,Teya and
Nikia, Catherine (Kate) and John Faller, Kathi and Ed DuBois and their son Ed (Cynthia), Donna O’Brien-
Squicciarini and her sons Raymond and Neil, his god-mother Donna Bakker, and his close friends
Anthony Triant and Brian Werring.
In addition to his birth mother, he was also predeceased by his stillborn son, Killian Joseph O’Brien on
July 28, 2021, his grandparents Al and Susie O’Brien and his uncle, Joe Botens.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, August 1, 2022 starting at 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home 130 Highland Ave Middletown, NY 10940. A service will be held at the funeral home at 2:00PM.
