Obituary for Saverio "Sal" Lettera
Saverio “Sal” Lettera, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at home. He was 64 years old.

The son of the late Albert and Antoinette Lettera, he was born August 14, 1941 in Bronx, NY.

In addition to being an intricate part of our family and life, our father was a Disabled Veteran and Retired United States Postal Worker (and a Yo-Yo Champion and a truck driver and a speed racer according to him.)

His essence is irreplaceable and will be missed by everyone who knew him. He had an innate ability to make people laugh and knew exactly what was needed to ensure their comfort in his presence. As a phenomenal cook, he was able to whip up the most incredible meals with only a few ingredients and an idea in his head. As an addendum to his last will and testament, he even joked about sautéing his ashes with a little garlic and olive oil – perhaps even making a quick marinara! That kind of remark is characteristic of the man we knew. He was at times blustery and curt, but was never able to conceal the enormous heart and loving spirit that resided within.

In the past ten years of his life, he greeted and fed the masses at his hot dog and food vending business

located on Route 17M in the Town of Waywayanda. He will be remembered by his friends and regular patrons of this establishment for his famous chili, his jokes and his enormous generosity.

He leaves behind: His first wife, Toni Porpora and their two children, Salena Lettera and Michael Lettera, along with Michael’s wife Pam and their three children; Nicolas, Joseph and Jake.

His second wife, Carol Milne Lettera and his step-children Kathleen Cox, Steven Milne and Melissa Milne.

His brother Albert and wife Margaret and Albert’s children Albert Lettera, Frankie Lettera and Larry Lettera.

His sister Rosemarie Canale, her husband Peter and their children Renee Persandi and Michelle Canale.

His Aunt, Jennie Della Cagna, being cared for by the Canale Family and

His loving companion, Deanna Giattino and her children Gena Stetson and Richard

Stetson
