“Sandy” Bristol-Masci, beloved wife and mother who brought immeasurable joy and light into the lives of all who knew her, passed away at home on Sunday July 21st after a nearly decade long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. She was 74.
Sandy was born to Rose and Joseph Van Sciver in Middletown, NY where she would eventually become a lifetime resident. After graduating from Middletown High School, she continued her education and earned her associate’s degree at Orange County Community College. She began working in the medical community at private practices before starting her 32 year career in Public Relations, Marketing, and Development at Horton Memorial Hospital and later the Orange Regional Medical Center as Director of the Foundation.
Sandy was endlessly creative and in the mid-80s began teaching the art of ceramics from home, “The Clay Pot” becoming a place for family and friends to gather for conversation, laughs, and art. She loved being outdoors working in the garden and sharing that joy with her young grandchildren. She was always willing to lend help and support at a moment’s notice, treasuring every moment spent with friends and family. Sandy was active as a community volunteer through many organizations including, among others, The Lenten Sewing Club, the Brittany Miller Foundation, Holy Name of Jesus church functions, and the New York State Elks Association of which she was a Past State First Lady. A wonderful friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and strength.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 20 years Louis Masci, Jr. who lovingly cared for her throughout her illness, her daughters Shannon (Flatley) and husband Christopher of Slate Hill, Erin Bristol of New York, and grandchildren Norah and Colin Flatley. Sandy was a loving bonus mom and grandma to Louis Masci, granddaughter Sarah and grandson Andrew; Jeffrey and Lauren Masci and granddaughters Kiera and Jillian, and Suzanne and Daniel McMonagle and grandson Walter. She was adored by her many cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and her furry companion Shelby who rarely left her side.
Sandy was pre-deceased by her late husband Kevin M. Bristol and her parents Rose and Joe Van Sciver.
