Obituary for Salvatore "Tootie" Catizone
Salvatore “Tootie” Catizone, a lifetime area resident, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at O.R.M.C. Horton Campus.  He was 83 years old.

The son of the late Salvatore and Teresa Leffa Catizone, he was born January 28, 1924 in Middletown.

He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.

A family statement reads, “Tootie placed great value on his family and friendships.  He was a faithful and caring man who often took time to visit his sick and elderly buddies.  We will wager much on the longshot that there will be a heavenly horse track for Tootie, and on the outside chance that there might be – we bet he’s jumping for joy!”

Tootie is survived by his loving companion, Ruth Shelley; his son Charles S. Dowd.  He was a beloved father to Wanda Morales and Robert Shelley and a devoted Pop to Andrea, and granddad to Jasen and Amy.  He was delighted with all of the great grandchildren in his life, Brianna, Kaitlyn, Olivia, Alyssa, Emily, Elizabeth, Ciara, Christopher and Brendon and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Peter, Anthony and Santo, his sisters Angeline Madia and Rose Diana, and his grandson Ryan.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, May 6 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 7 at 11am at St. Joseph’s RC Church, 149 Cottage Street in Middletown. Cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
