Obituary for Ruth Crandall
Ruth Crandall, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 19, 2021. Ruth was 88 years old.
The daughter of George and Gertrude Holder, she was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, on July 23, 1933. Ruth was predeceased by her husband William A. Gau in 1991. Ruth later married her longtime friend and love, John Crandall, on May 6, 2000. She lived in various places in New Jersey, including Union City, North Bergen and Montclair. They then moved from New Jersey to live with her family in Otisville, New York. Her final place of residence was in Waters Edge in Port Jervis, New York where she made many friends over the past three years.
Ruth was strong willed and witty with a vivacious personality. She spent many summers of her youth on Island Terrace in Oakland where the family had a bungalow. She loved horseback riding and visiting dude ranches in upstate New York. Ruth enjoyed annual summer trips to Seaside Heights and traveled there well into her later years. When she could no longer travel, she found satisfaction in torturing John with reruns of the show Everyone Loves Raymond, for hours on end. Ruth treasured her family and especially loved her role as grandmother.
Ruth is survived by her husband, John; her son, William Gau (Angie Cangialosi); her grandchildren, Samatha Gau (Joseph Rivera), Jamie Gau (Collin Geiselman), Alyssa Gau (Chris Ferrelli), Michael Cangialosi, Lauren Cangialosi, and Nicole Cangialosi; her great grandson, Montgomery Geiselman; her beloved cousin, Linda Buff Randolph (John Randolph); several nieces; and close friend, Barbara Labianca. All of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Ruth was also a devout parishioner at Otisville Presbyterian Church where she forged lasting connections with her community.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Wednesday, November 23rd, with a viewing at 10:00 A.M. at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, followed by a mass at Otisville Presbyterian Church at 1:30 P.M.
