Obituary for Rosa Velez

Rosa Velez was born February 14,1924, on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. From a young age she endured hardships and hurdles from the death of her mother, to having to withdraw from school in order to help her beloved grandmother make money to support the family. She came to New York City to join her older brother and continued to work hard, learning to read and write from newspapers and speaking English by purposely answering telephone calls while working as a nurse's aide. With every struggle and every hurdle, she persevered and raised her 4 children and nurtured more generations.

A more doting mother, grandmother, and great grandmother would be impossible to find. She had an unrivaled sense of humor, a love for dancing and music. Beloved by all that knew her, an incredible giving heart, a humble spirit, and an unshakable faith. Known simply as grandma to her grandchildren, their friends, their coworkers and to all that knew her. She relished spending time with her family and her friends.

The pillar and matriarch of the family, it was through her prayers that many of us came to know the Lord.

She is survived by her 3 children; Raymond Bayron and his wife Nilda, Joanne Bayron, and Julio Bayron and his wife Maribel; Her Grandchildren; Jennette Caraballo, Shirley Alsmetica, Crystalie Liu and her husband David, Rosenellie Bayron, Manuel Bayron, and Natalia Bayron; Her great-grandchildren; Danielle Matos, Asia Caraballo, Cameron Leath, Julien White, Jada Rodriguez, Jailyn Collins, David Liu, Caleb Liu, and Joshua Liu; Her great great-grandchildren; Stephania, Nova, Emily, and Brendon

As we grieve the loss of her daily presence in our lives and all of the love and gratitude for her left unspent, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is in the loving arms of her Savior and reunited with her beloved son Luis Bayron and her grandson Robert Caraballo both of whom predeceased her.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 12-2PM at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York 10940.
