Obituary for Roberta Zelinski Kurdyla
Roberta Zelinski Kurdyla
December 28, 1928-April 19, 2018
Middletown, NY

Roberta Zelinski Kurdyla, known lovingly as Bobbie, was born December 28, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York.

Strong-willed at a young age, she would sneak her ice skates with her to school, intent on skating at Rockefeller Center. It was a skill and a passion that endured her entire life.

At 12, she met her future husband, Chet, while visiting relatives in the Black Dirt Region of Orange County, New York. After their marriage, nearly a decade later, they had six daughters to whom she passed on her many talents and lifelong creativity. She raised her girls with independence and structure, instilling in them her strongest traits.

Roberta's natural ability to create with her hands extended beyond her young girls' clothes, to gifts for her grandchildren and members of her community. Fishermen wore her knitted caps, charities received her mittens, and children in hospitals were comforted by her knitted animals.

Later in life, she grew to be a tender woman, full of encouragement and wisdom. Her bright, sharp mind and warm curiosity made her an excellent listener and friend. Her love of knitting and other handcrafts was a vehicle for her generous spirit. She loved animals with compassion, and this brought joy to her life as well as the lives of her two cats, Jack and Jill, the deer who visited her daily, and even the cats of her grandchildren.

The strength of Roberta's character lives on after her passing on April 19, 2018 in those who stayed in her life: her daughter Lynne, her good friend Polly, her grandchildren JoEllen, Jamie, Derek, and Lindsey, and her great-grandchildren Savanna, Emmy, and Jack. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Chet, and her two talented daughters, Janet and Gail.

She will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to have known her in her 89 years. There is solace for us in believing she is reunited with Chet, who she has missed so much in the 24 years he's been gone. We wish them both peace and love.
