Robert M. Hunt, a life-long resident, died February 24, 2023, at home to meet Kathryn M. Hunt in heaven on their 66th wedding anniversary.
He was the son of the late R. Meade Hunt and Alice Dubois Scott.
He married Kathryn M. Kolodziejski on February 24, 1957, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Middletown, NY. He remained a life-long communicant of the parish.
Robert was a retired firefighter for the City of Middletown, having served for 34 years at the Ontario Fire Station. He was voted to honorary member status in 1982 to the Ontario Hose Co. #5. He was also a member of the Waakkill Engine Company #6 of Middletown, having joined in 1946. He was a member, office holder, and past president of Local 1027 International Association of Firefighters. He was a member and past financial secretary of the Veteran Firemen’s Association of Middletown, Inc., and member of the Orange County Volunteer Firemen’s Association, having been made a life member in September 1992.
As a team, Robert and Kathryn introduced and formed The Orange Squares, the first western-style square dance club in Orange County. They were also members, officers and past presidents of “The Country Cousins,” a camping club affiliated with the National Campers and Hikers Association.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served four years in the United States Air Force.
Robert is survived by his daughters: Regina Schlick and her husband William of Blowing Rock, NC; Maureen Hunt at home; and Paula Hunt-Harkey and her husband Mitchell of Spring Valley, CA. He is also survived by his grandson William Andrew Schlick and his wife Lisa of Zionville, NC.
He was predeceased by his wife Kathryn M. Kolodziejski Hunt just 45 days before his passing and his daughter Barbara Eileen Hunt (May 29, 2000).
Visitation will be from 11 am to 12 pm on Friday, March 3 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Service will take place at 12 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Members of the City of Middletown Professional Firefighters will meet at the funeral home at 12 p.m. Members of the Waakill Engine Company will meet at the funeral home at 12 pm.

Cremains will be inurned in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Washingtonville, NY, in the Kolodziejski family plot at the convenience of the family.
