Obituary for Robert J Hennessey Jr
Goshen, N.Y

My husband, Robert J. Hennessey Jr., our sons’ father, grandpa and dear friend to many, passed away on May 16, 2022 at Garnet Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 81.

He was the son of Robert J. Hennessey Sr. and Rose Cestone Hennessey, born on November 13 1940 in Tarrytown, N.Y. Bob graduated from Stepanic High School in White Plains and entered St. Anselm College in Manchester. New Hampshire in 1958. He was a math major and also served as editor of the college newspaper. After graduating in 1962 he entered the Air Force and was stationed in Maine for the three years he served. He was trained on one of the computers at that time, which was so large it occupied most of the lab floor.

After leaving the Air Force, Bob and his family moved to Westchester County and Bob began his IT career at IBM. This time period was the beginning of many innovative features that were the prerequisites of today’s computer capabilities. As a trained IBM employee he was sought after by many companies and was a valuable asset when it came to sharing knowledge with his new employer.

In 1973 he accepted a position as Director of the Computer Center at Orange County Community College where he enjoyed working with his staff and the students, especially the ones eager to learn about computer education.

In the early 1980’s Bob formed his own company, Camelot Computers, where he serviced many businesses and several school districts. As he often said “my hobby is working on computers” where he wrote programs for specific clients. When he could be torn away from work, he and his wife would spend a great deal of time cruising the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and enjoyed a cruise to the Baltic countries, including Russia.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Grace and his sons , Robert (Lori) of Suwanee, Georgia and Mark, of Middletown, sister Barbara Lee Poli of Stamford Ct., Kathleen Gigliotti (Patsy) of Yorktown Hgts, sister-in-law, Victoria White and two “Angel Aides”, Audrey Alridge and Juliet Blair Hamilton as well as two cherished granddaughters, Taylor and Sydney as well as his “adopted” granddaughters Shamara, and Kayana and great grandchild, Alex and many close friends.
