Obituary for Robert J. Foglia
Bob was cared for at home by his family and a wonderful team from Hospice, and died at home on December 21, 2023. he was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Michael and Evelyn Foglia. bob attended Peabody High School and then the University of Pittsburgh from 1951-55, where he earned a Bachelor's of Science and then his master's of Science. He did his graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon. His teaching career started at Maumee Valley Country Day School in Toledo, OH, then he taught at Shadyside Academy in Pittsburgh, then to Orange County Community College from 1970-2007. At SUNY Orange, he was a professor in the History Department and served as the Department Chair for a number of years. He was a steady presence teaching history and economics to generations of students. Bob had the respect and admiration of his students and colleagues.
Bob enjoyed his volunteering in the community at Middletown Thrall Library Used Bookstore, Encore Program at SUNY Orange, Orange County Historical Society and the Middletown Lions Club.
Throughout 26 years of marriage, we enjoyed many trips into New York City for concerts. Broadway plays, and walks on the city streets searching for a new restaurant! Bob is survived by his wife Glenice; his children, David, Roxanna and Marc; his grandchildren, Emily, Ben, Abigail. Julia, Cecelia, Zach and Soraya. From Glenice's family, Bob welcomed his "favorite" stepdaughter Blythe, and her husband Dwayne, along with grandchildren Alex, Caragan, Brian, and our new great-granddaughter Xyla.
A service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 11 am at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. m
Our special thanks to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Bob's life can be sent to the Middletown Lions Club Foundation, P.O. Box 122, Middletown, NY 10940 for the No Kid Hungry Program.
