Obituary for Robert H. Olsen, Sr.

Robert H. Olsen, Sr., a resident of Greenville, NY and formerly Barnegat, NJ, died
on Sunday, November 26, 2023, peacefully at home in the comfort of his own
bed, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 92.
The son of the late Raymond and Margaret Olsen, Bob was born on August 26,
1931 in Rahway, NJ. He married the love of his life, Helen Campbell Olsen on
June 9, 1951 in Richfield Park, NJ.
Bob was an avid New York Mets fan, never giving up on them no matter what.
He also followed college basketball, with the Villanova Wildcats being his
favorite team! He also loved to travel with his love, Helen! They loved the slot
machines in Atlantic City, taking cruises to Bermuda or anywhere in the
Caribbean and even took a trip to Ireland! They became snowbirds after
retirement, spending winters on Hutchinson Island, Florida, where Bob fell in
the love with the game of golf.
Bob worked at United Water (formerly Hackensack Water Co,) for over 30
years, starting off as a water plant operator, then a dispatch clerk until his
retirement in 1993. He had a outstanding work ethic and was a dedicated
employee. He LOVED his vacations, especially spending them in Wildwood
Crest with his family, who he cherished very much, including his wife, children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived at home by his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Dave
Smith, of Greenville, NY., son Gary Olsen and wife Lisa of Thornton, Pa., Nancy
Olsen and partner Barbara Mason of Stuart, Fl., son Robert Olsen Jr. and wife
Kathy, of Hillsborough , NJ. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jillian
Decker (Matt), Danielle Giordano (Mike), Matthew Olsen, Scott Olsen, Gabriela
Olsen, Amanda Suek (Tony), Nicholas Olsen (Meghan), Ryan Olsen (Cory) ,
Shannon Olsen , Brendan Smith, and 9 great-grandchildren: Kayli, Kaeson,
Calvin, Dominy, Isabela, Casey, Nolan, Bodhi and Isla!
Bob was predeceased by his loving wife, Helen Lorraine, brother Raymond
Olsen, brother Richard Olsen, and his dear sister, Mary Lou Maurer. He was
also predeceased by his grandson, Jared.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 12:30-2:30, with Memorial
Video starting at 2pm, followed by Catholic Eulogy, at Applebee-McPhillips
Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association, www.alz/northeastern.org or the American Heart Association
