Robert H. Hammarquist passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 6, 2012. He was 78 years old.
A 38 year resident of the area, Robert retired from Mid-Hudson Pychiatric Facility after 25 years of State Service. He was a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge 1097 since 1980, a member of the Middletown German American Club and a 3rd Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Robert was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a good friend to everyone who knew him.
Robert was the beloved husband of Olevene M. Hammarquist, nee Stillwell;Â father of Robert Hammarquist, Jr and his wife Iris, Jeffrey Hammarquist, Peter and his wife Laura Hammarquist, Peggy Smith and her husband Cecil and Rose Lucia. He was also grandfather to Rob and Ali Hammarquist, Jeffrey Hammarquist, Jr, Jeremy Smith, Lindsay Smith, Courtney Smith, P.J. Hammarquist, Brooke Hammarquist, Joe Bruno, Michael Bruno, Patrick and Diedre Sylvestre and Shawna and Chris Sgroe; and great-grandfather to Lilly, Dylan, Jeffrey III, Monica, Daniel and Katie, Anthony and Alex as well as brother to Ruth Paez and her husband Tito and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 6 pm on Monday, December 10, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery in Otisville, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc.
