Obituary for Robert Frederick Dimmie, Jr.
Robert Frederick Dimmie, Jr. passed away suddenly at home on November 19, 2019. He was born on November 26, 1936 in Palmyra, VA to Robert Frederick Dimmie Sr. and Alice Anderson-Dimmie.
Robert was predeceased by his wife Althea Beatrice Mitchell Dimmie, his parents, Alice and Robert F. Dimmie Sr., his sister Frances Curtis Dimmie, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Robert loved to hunt, play baseball, watch football and basketball and enjoyed being a handyman. After 35 years of driving a truck for Associated Transport, Inc and Red Star, Robert retired to enjoy the rest of his life. He loved going to his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He enjoyed going back to his home in Palmyra, VA to visit his mother and work on the farm whenever he could. He married Althea Beatrice Mitchell on April 7, 1957 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage with her, raising three children.
He is survived by two sons, Robert F. Dimmie III and Ronald M. Dimmie and a daughter Rhonda Dimmie, all of Washingtonville, NY, his brother Gene Austin Dimmie of Palmyra, VA He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chantal, Robert IV, Molly, Nate and Eugene and great-grandchildren, Tyrone and Osyrus and one Aunt, Elnora (Tillie) Rose and nephews Gregory Dimmie , wife Carol and son Ethan of Upper Marlboro, MD and Jeffrey Dimmie of Dallas, TX.
Visitation will be held on his birthday, Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm with a Funeral Service at 7:00 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Services will also be held on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 1 pm at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1620 Shiloh Church Rd, Palmyra, VA 22963. Burial will take place in the family plot in Shiloh Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Robert's name may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, P.O. Box 372, Palmyra, VA 22963 or to the charity of one's choice.
