Bob, 72, a longtime resident of the Hamlet of Winterton, N.Y. passed away Sunday, July 18 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
The son of the late George and Sally Cross, Bob grew up on Skaneateles Lake, N.Y. where you could always find him on the water swimming, boating or skiing. He helped run the family marina while attending Skaneateles High School where he played football, threw the shotput as a member of the track and field team and played the tuba.
He is a graduate of Niagara University where he met and fell in love with his wife of 48 years. Bob used his many and varied talents and people skills throughout his career. He was the manager of the Sterling Forest Ski Area and Gardens and then he went on to start his own business while teaching at the BOCES Vocational Center in Goshen. He ended his career as a Manager/Job Coach of the emergent work program for adults with disabilities at Crystal Run Village where he retired in 2012. He was passionate about advocating for his clients.
As an environmentalist he enjoyed being outside whether it was taking a brisk walk around his neighborhood, going for a peaceful kayak ride with his wife or biking and camping with his family. Bob and his wife relished going on bed and breakfast adventures throughout the New England area. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture and projects around the house.
Bob was a dedicated member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg, N.Y. where he often volunteered his time to various community events and services including the Food Pantry and Summerfest. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels with his wife for many years. Bob was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed.
